Chapter 2 — Reading

The adaptive module, its nine task types and managing the 40 minutes

Chapter 02 · Linguaskill General

Reading

An adaptive module: difficulty adjusts to every answer and the test stops once your level is established.

~40 min (capped at 59)Adaptive · variable Q count9 task types

The Reading module lasts about 40 minutes, with a duration capped at 59 minutes. The task types are identical for General and Business; only the context of the texts changes. In the General version they cover everyday and academic life: notices, messages, articles, personal emails, study or travel situations.

The fundamental difference from a linear test is that the module is fully adaptive: there is no fixed number of questions. After every answer, the system re-estimates your level and chooses the next task accordingly — harder if you were right, easier if not. The module stops as soon as the system can determine your level with confidence.

A sequence, not a questionnaire

You will not see "question 12 of 40". The module chains tasks of varying difficulty, and their total number depends on your answers. Two candidates — or the same candidate twice — never see the same sequence.

Each skill receives a score on the Cambridge English Scale (82–210) and a CEFR level from B1 to C2 (see chapter 1). There is no negative marking: never leave an answer blank.
