How Erosophia estimates your scores
In short. The scores shown on Erosophia, in mock tests, practice and free tests, are unofficial estimates. Only the organisation that delivers the exam gives an official score. Erosophia is not affiliated with any of these organisations. For each exam, a detailed page explains how the score is calculated, what follows the official publications and what cannot follow them.
What applies to every exam
- Reading and listening: each answer is right or wrong, as in the exam. The conversion to a score follows what the official organisation publishes; where it publishes no conversion table, the exam's page says so and explains Erosophia's method.
- Writing and speaking: an AI scores your answers against the criteria published by the official organisation (for CLOE, which only publishes their names, against the CEFR). The site then applies fixed rules itself (blank, too short, off-topic or non-English answers…), so as not to depend on the AI's judgement alone.
- Speaking: the AI reads an automatic transcript of your recording. It cannot hear your pronunciation: each page explains what this means for the score.
- Failures: if the microphone, the transcription or the marking fails, the answer is not counted as wrong. The site says so and invites you to try again.
- Checks: before each change, the scoring is checked against a set of reference answers scored beforehand by independent markers. The results of the latest check are on each page.
- Your official score: you can enter it, if you wish, on your "My progress" page. It lets Erosophia compare its estimates with real results and make them more accurate.
