The academic passages, the question types, and time management

The Reading Comprehension section contains 50 questions in 55 minutes, spread over several short academic passages, each followed by several questions.

The passages are encyclopedic in style and cover general university subjects: natural sciences (biology, geology, astronomy), humanities (history, art, American literature), social sciences (economics, sociology). No prior knowledge is required: every answer is found in the text.

Vocabulary is the great differentiator in this section: a solid academic lexicon (the lists on the Vocabulary page) often makes the difference between a 50 and a 60.
