Liberty Leading the People — Delacroix’s canvas of the Trois Glorieuses, exhibited at the Salon of 1831
« I have undertaken a modern subject, a barricade, and if I have not conquered for my country, at least I shall paint for her »: the painter wrote that to his brother in October 1830. The canvas was acquired, then withdrawn from view, and entered the Louvre only in 1874, eleven years after its author’s death. (Editorial synthesis)
Recorded author of Liberty Leading the People: Eugène Delacroix.

When a piece of information is not in that collection, the encyclopedia says so rather than inventing it — that principle is what makes every answer it does give trustworthy.
