The Thinker — Rodin’s sculpture, conceived for the Gates of Hell and cast in several sizes
Conceived around 1880 for the tympanum of the Gates of Hell, it was to represent Dante contemplating his poem and was called The Poet. Shown alone at Copenhagen in 1888, renamed, enlarged at the turn of the century, exhibited at the Salon of 1904 and installed before the Panthéon in 1906, it was moved to the musée Rodin. More than twenty casts exist, in three sizes; one stands on its author’s tomb at Meudon. (Editorial synthesis)
Recorded author of The Thinker: Auguste Rodin.

When a piece of information is not in that collection, the encyclopedia says so rather than inventing it — that principle is what makes every answer it does give trustworthy.
