Rameau — Composer and music theorist, author of Les Indes galantes, 1683–1764
Seventh of the eleven children of an organist, himself an organist at Avignon, Clermont, Dijon and Lyon for twenty years, he settled in Paris in 1722 with his Traité de l’harmonie and wrote his first opera only at fifty. There followed Les Indes galantes in 1735, Castor et Pollux in 1737, Platée in 1745, and a quarrel with Rousseau over French music. He died a few days short of eighty-one. (Editorial synthesis)

When a piece of information is not in that collection, the encyclopedia says so rather than inventing it — that principle is what makes every answer it does give trustworthy.
