Poussin — Norman painter settled in Rome, 1594–1665
Trained in Paris, he reached Rome in 1624 and came back only for less than two years, in 1640–1642, summoned by Louis XIII as first painter to the King; he returned and painted there, for Roman and Parisian collectors, history paintings, mythologies and landscapes. (Editorial synthesis)
