Entry
Maurice Ravel — Composer, pianist and conductor, 1875–1937
Born in the Basque country to a music-loving family, he entered the Paris Conservatoire, whose conservative establishment held him in low esteem — he failed five times at the Prix de Rome, and the scandal of 1905 forced the director’s resignation. The 1920s and 1930s held him France’s greatest living composer; he died after an illness that had taken his writing from him. (Editorial synthesis)

When a piece of information is not in that collection, the encyclopedia says so rather than inventing it — that principle is what makes every answer it does give trustworthy.
