Marcel Proust — Novelist, author of In Search of Lost Time, 1871–1922
The son of a professor of medicine, asthmatic from childhood and long taken for a society dilettante, he devoted his last years to a seven-volume sequence published from 1913 to 1927, the last three after his death under his brother Robert’s care. He died of a lung ailment in his flat on the rue Hamelin. (Editorial synthesis)

Answers are drawn from a corpus established and verified by an editorial team; each one shows its source.
When a piece of information is not in that collection, the encyclopedia says so rather than inventing it — that principle is what makes every answer it does give trustworthy.
