Jean Moulin — The Resistance’s unifier, 1899–1943
Prefect of Eure-et-Loir, he tried to cut his own throat in June 1940 rather than sign a dishonouring text. Reaching London, parachuted back as Rex then Max, he unified movements, parties and unions into the National Council of the Resistance. Arrested at Caluire on 21 June 1943, he did not talk. In 1964, Malraux brought his ashes into the Panthéon. (Editorial synthesis)

Answers are drawn from a corpus established and verified by an editorial team; each one shows its source.
When a piece of information is not in that collection, the encyclopedia says so rather than inventing it — that principle is what makes every answer it does give trustworthy.
