Entry
Gargantua — Rabelais’s novel, published in 1534 or 1535 under a pseudonym
Its author’s second novel, published under the anagram that had already served him: the education and the wars of a giant, father of the one in the previous book. A plea for humanist culture against rigid teaching, written in a free and often coarse language. The sole copy of the first edition has lost its title page: neither place nor date appears on it. (Editorial synthesis)
Gargantua was published around 1535 (Julian calendar). (source: Encyclopædia Universalis)
Recorded author of Gargantua: Rabelais.

Answers are drawn from a corpus established and verified by an editorial team; each one shows its source.
When a piece of information is not in that collection, the encyclopedia says so rather than inventing it — that principle is what makes every answer it does give trustworthy.
