Entry
Francis I — King of France from 1515 to 1547, a prince of the Renaissance
The grandson of a younger son of a cadet branch, whom nothing destined for the throne and whom an improbable succession carried there. He won his first battle in the year of his accession, lost a second that made him a prisoner, and left a kingdom where French had become the language of legal acts and Italy a school. Answers are drawn from a corpus established and verified by an editorial team; each one shows its source.
When a piece of information is not in that collection, the encyclopedia says so rather than inventing it — that principle is what makes every answer it does give trustworthy.
