Entry
Dagobert I — King of the Franks, the last Merovingian to rule in his own right, c. 603–639
Son of Clotaire II, king of Austrasia then of all the Franks in 629, he reunited the kingdom one last time, governed with Eligius and Audoin, richly endowed the abbey of Saint-Denis where he wished to be buried, and passes for the most brilliant of the Merovingians. After him the mayors of the palace governed, and his descendants were the “rois fainéants”. (Editorial synthesis)

Answers are drawn from a corpus established and verified by an editorial team; each one shows its source.
When a piece of information is not in that collection, the encyclopedia says so rather than inventing it — that principle is what makes every answer it does give trustworthy.
