The court’s move to Versailles — In 1682, Louis XIV settled court and government at Versailles
The king and his court had until then travelled ceaselessly, from the Louvre to the Tuileries, from Saint-Germain to Fontainebleau. By settling permanently in the château he had been enlarging for twenty years, Louis XIV ended the royal nomadism and turned a village into a palace-city where the nobility came to live under his eye.
