Abelard — The 12th-century dialectician, master of Paris, lover of Héloïse, 1079–1142
Son of a Breton knight who preferred disputation to arms, he taught logic on the montagne Sainte-Geneviève before thousands of scholars, loved Héloïse and paid for it with his mutilation, was condemned at Soissons and then at Sens on Bernard of Clairvaux’s accusation, and died among the monks of Cluny. His method of for and against made the school of Paris. (Editorial synthesis)

When a piece of information is not in that collection, the encyclopedia says so rather than inventing it — that principle is what makes every answer it does give trustworthy.
