US The side or slope of a hill; a sloping descent.

  • By reason of this planning the line, which for much of its length has a sidehill location in river canyons with steep sides, was compelled to tunnel extensively, the 43 tunnels on the route having a combined length of 44,189 ft.1941 March, “Notes and News: Modernising a Main Line”, in Railway Magazine, page 133:
