Etymology Borrowed from Persian رُبَاب, from Arabic رُبَاب (rubāb), plural of رَبَابَة (rabāba); similar forms exist in many languages where the instrument is played, such as Pashto رَبَاب (rabāb), Punjabi ਰਬਾਬ (rabāb) / رَبَاب (rabāb), Hindustani (Hindi रबाब (rabāb) / Urdu رَبَاب (rabāb)).
