Etymology

From the science fiction horror movie C.H.U.D. (1984), in which it stands for “cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers”. The slang derivative of this term from the movie was coined by the hosts of the Chapo Trap House podcast and popularized on its subreddit, r/chapotraphouse, as well as on the Bernie Sanders campaign movement's Twitter community. The term reached youth mainstream through streaming content like Clavicular via incel jargon, where its use as a self-description derives from flame wars against the right-wing /pol/ board on 4chan by left-wing netizens using it against /pol/ users in the internet slang sense and was subsequently popularized by the Chudjak/"le /pol/ face" meme.
