UK A permanent sign installed in a public place to commemorate a historical link between that location and a famous person, event, or former building on the site.

  • As an aside, Luddendenfoot once had a famous (or perhaps infamous) clerk - drunkard Branwell Brontë, brother to the famous Brontë sisters and writers. He was sacked from his post in March 1842 after an audit revealed a discrepancy in the books.
