Etymology Unadapted borrowing from French bagasse, from Spanish bagazo (“plant residue (especially from sugar cane) after juice is extracted”), from baga (“berry”) (from Latin bāca (“berry or other small fruit; etc.”); further etymology uncertain) + -azo (augmentative suffix).
